I broke an ice tray last night. I’ve been breaking ice trays my entire life. I slam them down on the counter with what I hope is enough force to eject the ice cubes from their seats and I’m disappointed so often that I take to hammering the tray on the counter again and again. I’ve tried just bending the tray to pop the cubes out, and that only ever works for the cubes in the center of the tray. The tray I broke last night cracked right down the middle.

Sometimes I’ll wrestle with the pockets toward the ends and it just takes so much effort to get those cubes out that I avoid making ice altogether. I never have ice in my freezer, I never fill up that little loose ice container that is supposed to make serving cold drinks so convenient. I just drink warm lemonade.

I broke an ice tray last night, and right after I broke it I had an ice-making epiphany: Just turn the tray over and hold the ice in with your fingers while you run the back of the tray under warm water for a few seconds. The cubes release almost instantly.

I broke an ice tray last night right before I discovered the secret to never breaking another one.

I broke an ice tray last night, and this morning a delivery van arrived from Home Depot with the new refrigerator and ice-maker combo I ordered two weeks ago. Because I was tired of breaking ice trays, and tired of warm lemonade.

Congratulations on the new discovery!! and the new fridge! Isn’t that the way most things go – Once you figure out how to use it, you don’t need it anymore ;-)

I’m just going to hide in shame and pretend I don’t call you my friend.

And I’m the blonde one. Go figure.

Umm… glad you got a new fridge so that you never have to go through such an ordeal again! Next time you have such a quandary, ask the internets. It seems that either I or Redneck Mommy could have helped you out on this years ago.

Was there ice before I moved into a house with an ice-making fridge? Is there any other way to make ice? Because life without fresh ice at a touch (or a push, I guess) is simply UNTHINKABLE now…

There’s some kind of Zen lesson in there…

For boring reasons you don’t want to hear, I’ll simply tell you my icemaker doesn’t work. Anyway, I just buy bagged ice. I like the shapes of the cubes. am nerd.

Are you sure you’re not blonde?
By the way, I can say that because I am…

That was an awfully expensive remedy for your inability to make ice.
